"For what is life but a play in which everyone acts a part until the curtain comes down?" Erasmus 1511
This is a family history site and has been set up to pool together the resources of the Birds, Childs, Goldsmiths and their families stretching back over six centuries. It also embraces the current generations for the benefit of our own children and grandchildren. It has
been recorded in an open format so that it is accessible to others researching their family history. The full electronic Family Tree is available on Genes Reunited and is updated regularly as new data becomes available. We are now in contact with extended family from all over the world taking an interest in our research.
" EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO THEIR OWN HISTORY "
For at least the past 100 years the Bird Childs and Goldsmith history has been shrouded in secrets and mysteries which still continue today. The motivation behind this site is to unravel these mysteries with research and clarify the facts if at all possible within its pages and to honour our grandparents' memories. Unfortunately many of the certificates issued were a complete sham making the research difficult in parts.
These pages are not meant to hurt anybody, dead or still living, but rather to tell the story truthfully - the good, the bad and the ugly. Some close family members however do not wish to be associated with the site and our fascinating avant-garde ancestors. Of course this is their choice. They tried their utmost initially to get the site closed down. Some sections have generated much interest recently, from Ancestry.com where a Rothermel page has been featured - and the BBC, especially the War, Vegetarian, Greenham and Education pages.
Time, in the end, reduces all private things to history.
Many older members of the family were very talented in music, theatre, arts and crafts, and these attributes continue today in the younger generations. Please send in details of past and present musical achievements, film and media links and samples of your art work and poetry.
" History develops, Art stands still"
As we continue our journey many younger members of the family are joining in with their news and acheivements making the site even more comprehensive, this of course will be our history for future generations.......
Tell us about your interesting links to both family and friends which would be of interest to us all so we can add them to the site. If you have visited for the first time and enjoyed certain pages or sections and have anything to share with us please get in touch
"A PICTURE PAINTS A THOUSAND WORDS"
There are hundreds of wonderful family pictures on the site taken over the past century - take a look and continue to send in more from the attic and recent images!
The colours used on this website were chosen especially to accommodate those in the family who suffer from colour blindness so they can enjoy it as equally as other members of our family
and friends
