Above painting in Scarborough Art Museum
From the time we were environmental activists (there were none before us) exhibiting political environmental art, this painting was given to Scarborough Art Gallery after being in the Art Gallery and the Royal Hotel then owned by Thomas Laughton brother of Charles Laughton. Mc Cains was looking for a site for their Frozen Potato Chips Factory it had to be on the sea to dispose of the raw waste products. Scarborough a Right Wing Authority offered a site with no resriction on discharges to the sea. We ran a campaign saying come to Scarborough and catch your own Fish and Chips on the beach. Mc Cains came but at least the effluent was screened before discharge . Ian

| This building used to be two cottages, they were tenanted by fishermen and to them on many occasions expectant mothers from the islands came for their confinements. |
