| | Norman married Gladys Helen Rumsey in September 1963, she died in 1973. He described himself as a Caterer and his father Harry Bird as a Stationer. Harry had been a Stationer for only a few short years in Praed Street London in the early 1900's and had described Norman as his 'nephew' in his Will. Dorothy Feodora Bate was Helen's younger sister and a witness at her wedding to Norman. It is unknown as to who Queenie Annie Mary Holding was, Gladys and Dorothy became Norman's 'sleeping partners' in business. He remembered Dorothy and Queenie in his Will and paid Dorothy back her outstanding loan. Dorothy died on 8 Jan 1986 aged 85 yrs and Queenie died on 4 Oct 1986 aged 74 yrs Both in Newton Abbot Norman's house and contents at 2 Ridgeway Road Newton Abbot, his freehold property 'Glebelands' at Combeinteignhead and his 1978 Vauxhall Chevette were sold on his death. Most of his personal effects appear to have been destroyed shortly afterwards so unfortunately the family do not hold anything of substance to remember him by. However a large box of Helen's family photographs remained with the Childs family, they have now been handed back to Peter Rumsey who contacted us through this site. |
